Well as the semester is coming to a close, hopefully the activity on this blog will not. I vaguely knew what a blog was when I first registered for the Information Technology in Marketing class and even though my knowledge is not that of an expert I have learned alot.
I feel that being up to date on the newest and fastest growing form of word of mouth is incremental to one's education.
Overall the blog project for the semester went well. I was a little slow at first because of the lack of understanding of what if really was about and how to execute the project successfully. After I seemed to get the swing of things I attempted, to the best of my ability, to explore the wonderful world of blogging.

Wiki Summary
The four articles that I chose to edit for this semester, I found were fairly successful edits. No other Wikipedia users decided that my content needed to be changed. With that being said, I feel that my wiki part of the project was successful by my acceptance into the wiki community. The articles that I edited were Delta Gamma, Weight Watchers, High Heeled Shoes, and Labrador Retrievers!!! Check them out!
Wiki Edit
The crossbreed of Labs and Poodles, called Laberdoodle, are many times populat because they don't shed as much as a pure bred Lab.
Wiki Edit
I added content in the intro article of High Heels about the illusion that they give to your legs!!!
Wiki Edit
When speaking about the online program that Weight Watchers has I added in a fact that I have in a pamphlet, but was not in the Wikipedia article. You loose three times more weight if you go to meetings.
Wiki Edit
Delta Gamma's philanthropy is Service for Sight, in which we help people who are visually impaired. It is considered politically incorrect to say "blind people" so I adjusted this language in the wikipedia article.

"Top 17 Search Innovations Outside Of Google"
On John Battelle's Search blog I came across an article about the numerous amount of search engines available. When one thinks about a search engine it is alway Google or Yahoo that pops into your head, but there are over 100 search engines available online to surf the web. The top 17 are listed, but the article states that these search engines will become "disruptive in the future." Could this be because it is distracking traffic from more major search engines? Maayyyybe. Check it out!!

"Resist the Clipboard" - Modern Marketing Blog
An article on the Modern Marketing blog caught my interest this morning becuase it talked about the "bad guys" of blogging. It also mentioned blogging etiquette and the code of conduct. There are definately extremes when it comes to those who wondering into the blogging world, which could man times lead to "abnormal" bloging behavior, or the urge to Resist the Clipboard

HostmySite
I thought that the HostmySite speaker today was very interesting. I found it refreshing that the company stayed true to it's good customer service, even though their rates are a bit higher.
A company I interned for this past summer was searching for a way to bringin some extra revenue and decided to do a similar service. This was not incredibly successful because of the lack of attention that was paid to the hosting service.

Teammate Comment
I recently commented on my one of my teammate's blog about how YoutTube has been baned in Thailand. I thought that is was an important reminder to us in the US how fortunate we are to have such a broad freedom of speech. Even though there are some borderline inappropriate material on YouTube, it does continue to be an intricate part of today's marketing world.

Slashdot
An article posted on the Slashdot blog caught my attention. It was titled RIAA Wins Worst Company in America 2007. The article states that it is ranked even lower than Halliburton...hmmm interesting. Some could argue that you couldn't get much lower than that. What I did find surprising was that among the other most hated companies Walmart was brought up. I believe that it is most likely to to the somewhat monopolistic control Walmart has taken, especially over the traditional "mom and pop" shops.

Comment
I posted on a teammates blog about the amount of money spent on advertising over the internet. I never knew it was such a large investment. Due to the ease and accessability of the internet I assumed that it wasn't as large of a cost.

Modern Marketing Blog
I really enjoyed one particular quote from an articl on the Modern Marketing Blog. I agree 100% with the statements about when shaing the market place it comes down to accepting change and adjusting to the culture of the market and not just business tools and skills in forecasting. This is very much so how I view marketing in the sense that its more about reading the people than it is something you read from a textbood. I guess that's why blogging is such an integral part in marketing because it can be so up to date, maybe.

Comment
Today I commented on one of my teammates blogs about the controversy with Title IX. I found it refreshing that someone else, especially male, had interest and concern in this subject.

Personalization
Today we touched a bit on personalization on websites. I think it is a great marketing promotion idea. I am going on a cruise for spring break and every time I sign on the website it gives me a count down until the trip. This not only increases my enthusiasm about the trip, but it also results in my logging in to the site as often as I can to get my countdown for the day. If the cruise company is attempting to get more hits on their site by utilizing this tactic it has certainly worked for me.

Skpe Presentation
I thought that the skype presentation about social media and blogging was pretty cool. I think I am beginning to understand the real purpose of blogging in a marketing sense. I can now see how it really does promote word of mouth through the consumers and other businesses. Also, honest feedback is always great information when making a purchase decision because if you have been viewing quality advertisements it can be a difficult decision choosing the product for you between brands.

Shady Business
I was very surprised today to discover how easily it was to locate yourself, or anyone else for that matter, online. With just a telephone number you can access a satellite photo of where that telephone number is based. Creeeeeeppyyyy.
First Wiki Edit
Today I made my very first wikipedia edit!! I changed the founding date in the Delta Gamma Fraternity history because it was posted as a day too early! All fixed!
